Plating Testing, Plating Adhesion Test, Thickness test

provides A2LA accredited (ISO 17025) laboratory services for physical properties of plating, chemical analysis of plating, corrosion resistance of plating, and plating material certification. In addition to plating testing, our laboratory also does plastic testing, metal testing, rubber testing, oil testing, paint testing, adhesive testing, circuit board testing, and other testing.


Physical Properties of Plating

Plating thickness (ASTM B568) is important because if it is too thin then it will not offer enough wear or corrosion resistance. Adhesion (ASTM B571) of the plating to the substrate can be equally important in providing good performance.


Chemical Analysis of Plating

Plating composition can be measured using EDS Analysis or XRF Analysis. Jewelry is often plated with 18k gold or platinum which is regulated by the FTC to ensure the correct jewelry composition.


Corrosion Resistance of Plating

Corrosion resistance using salt spray testing (ASTM B117) provides a measure of resistance to marine environments or salt covered roads.


Plating Material Certification

Material specifications list specific performance requirements for different types of plating. Material specifications differ from test methods because test methods only specify how to test for a property but do not include acceptable ranges for the test results. Plating material specifications are published by many agencies including the military, ASTM, SAE, and several automotive manufacturers.
